FE ANALYSIS OF TANK

The presented case involves a comprehensive Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of a tank structure. The original design provided by the client faced challenges in terms of safety and design optimization. The primary modifications include altering the geometry, adjusting thickness parameters, and introducing stiffeners to enhance structural integrity. The project aims to ensure the stability and safety of the tank under varying conditions.

Methodology

The methodology employed a systematic approach to address the identified issues. Firstly, geometric modifications were made by removing three channels from the base frame and adjusting the height of the fluid free surface. Stiffeners were strategically placed, with inclined ones extending to the bottom plate of the taper tank, and two horizontal stiffeners added in the taper tank. The thickness of various components, such as the bottom plates and stiffeners, was optimized based on safety standards, ensuring they did not exceed specified limits. The FE analysis was conducted using shell elements, with the original geometry converted accordingly. A lifting lug was introduced in the lifting case, providing additional stability.

Conclusion

Through the meticulous application of FE analysis and structural modifications, the tank design underwent significant improvements. The adjusted geometry, optimized thickness parameters, and strategically placed stiffeners contribute to enhanced structural stability. The utilization of advanced techniques, such as shell elements and lifting lugs, ensures the reliability of the tank under diverse scenarios.
